The Modernization of the Newberry Library

The 2018 modernization of Chicago’s most famous independent research institution, @newberrylibrary, was one for the books.

Honored with an @aia_illinois Crombie Taylor Honor Award for outstanding preservation and renovation of a historic building, and a @chicago_buildingcongress Renovation and Adaptive Reuse Award, the project, guided by @annbehaarch, transformed the imposing, 1887 neo-Romanesque structure into an innovative, accessible, and engaging space for today’s patrons.

Jamerson & Bauwens’ work throughout 24,700 square feet of lobby, galleries, ball rooms, and conference rooms included service upgrades, a new UPS emergency system, LED lighting, a fire alarm system replacement and a lightning controls system.
